(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 07 OTT - Italy’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Giorgio Marrapodi, welcomed the delegation from the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano of Bologna, which is on a mission to the United States for its first tour dedicated to promoting the Italian language and culture. “I am very pleased that the Antoniano’s mission—which has always spread a message of peace, friendship, solidarity, and dialogue, in line with the UN’s founding values and with Italy’s efforts at the UN Headquarters,” stated Marrapodi, who was keen to emphasize the fundamental role of younger generations in shaping the future of a multilateralism that meets people’s aspirations for peace, dignity, and development. The delegation, led by Fra’ Giampaolo Cavalli, Director of the Antoniano in Bologna, presented the activities and mission of the Piccolo Coro, noting an important historical coincidence: in 1959, the year of the first edition of the Zecchino d’Oro, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. The Piccolo Coro opened the ceremony with a performance of the Italian national anthem, followed by a selection of pieces chosen and arranged specifically for the U.S. mission. Through music, the delegation sought to reaffirm a universal message of dialogue and sharing, highlighting music’s ability to transcend geographical boundaries and cultural differences. Following the first event at the Permanent Mission, on October 8 the Antoniano delegation will be received by the Consulate General of Italy in New York and the Italian Cultural Institute. In the days that follow, the Piccolo Coro will also take center stage at the Columbus Day celebrations on Fifth Avenue, bringing to the heart of New York the music and values that have always been part of its history.
